In 1983, Barbara and Rick Bailey, with a shared passion for art and craftsmanship, decided they would start their own business. Barbara had worked in an art gallery and used her mother's connections to procure a small batch of framed artwork. They loaded them up into Rick's station wagon and took them to a local swap-meet.

Their initial venture was characterized by long hours and a deep commitment to their craft. They opened their first custom framing store Aztec Graphics in 1987 and moved to the Pacific Beach location a few years later. They quickly gained a reputation for their keen eye for detail and personalized service. Each piece reflected their dedication to quality. This grassroots approach not only helped them sell their products but also fostered a community around their brand.

As word spread, the Aztec Graphics frame shop became a beloved local fixture in Pacific Beach. Customers returned not just for the art, but for Barbara's warm personalities and genuine passion for helping others. What began as a small venture at a flea market blossomed into a thriving business.

Fast forward to 2019, recognizing the shifting landscape of retail, son Tim Bailey and his best friend Jonathan Christenson, partnered up to bring the business online. Infusing a modern spin they created The Modern Wall, anchored by the same values of community and creativity that Barbara and Rick had embraced from the very beginning.
